roots, a health channel by Pep

What 6 years ofgut problemstaught me.

I'm Pep. For six years I lived with SIBO and food intolerances. I'm much better now, and still learning. Here I share what helped, what didn't, and how your body actually works. Calmly and honestly.

the short version

Six hard years, one ring each.

  1. The first rings

    Pain, most days

Six years of digestive problems. Pain was part of almost every day.

  2. A name for it

    SIBO, and intolerances

Diagnosed with SIBO and intolerances to gluten, lactose and others.

  3. Trying everything

    Almost every diet

A low-histamine diet. Chinese medicine. Acupuncture. If it might help, I tried it.

  4. The doctors

    A lot of specialists

A histamine specialist, an irritable digestive system specialist, and many more. Once, weeks in hospital.

  5. The hardest stretch

    A summer on the sofa

A time I couldn't do sport. Stressed, sleeping badly. A whole summer on the sofa, eating too much and scrolling too much.

  6. The way back

    I came out of it

Slowly. A very different way of eating, better evenings, and moving again.

  7. Now

    Wide rings again

The SIBO has passed. I'm much healthier, calmer and happier, and still improving. Hard years grow thin rings. These ones are wide.

Hard periods are part of becoming who you want to be.

what roots is about

Four foundations,all through the gut.

Most of what I make is about food and the gut, because that's what I lived. Sleep, movement and calm come in where they connect back to it.

  • Food and gut

How digestion works, what almost every diet taught me, and what the research says. The heart of Roots.

  • Sleep

In the bad years I was stressed and slept badly. What I do in the evenings now, like red light and blue-light blocking glasses.

  • Movement

There was a time I couldn't do sport. How moving your body ties in with how your gut feels.

  • Calm

Stress, the gut and the brain, and time outside. I film on walks, outdoors.

how your body works

See it, and itstarts to make sense.

In the videos I explain the body with real anatomy, calmly, one idea at a time. Here are two of them.

What actually happens when you eatFood's trip through the gut, stop by stop. Typical times, they vary from person to person.
Your bloating might not be gasWhat we think it is, and what the muscles often do instead.

the rings

Every day is one ring.

Each afternoon I check in: bloating, energy, digestion and sleep, from 0 to 10, and a few words on how the day went. Every check-in becomes one ring, like in a tree.

Once a month I show you my real rings in the Roots report. The hard days too, because they're normal.

  • A good day grows a wide ring
  • A hard day stays thin
  • The newest ring

This drawing is an example. My real rings are in the monthly videos.
